Photographs and poetry are my key inspirations. I draw on historical and autobiographical material, giving the forgotten and the discarded a second life. These pasts are not necessarily apparent, it is the mystery of the unknown that gains my curiosity, and which provides a starting point for the poetical imagination. My aim is to evoke a sense of nostalgia as well as awakening the fantasies that are hidden within us all. The thoughts and associations of the viewer ultimately create a romanticised relationship with the piece, therefore adding layers of stories to each other.
The form of my frames incites a sense of nostalgia, echoing a past time, while the velvet and flocking draws on mysteries, where you begin to open your own hidden and longed for thoughts. Narrative is strongly present throughout, and is the fundamental source for my love of boxes: they are a journey of discovery, where you search into layers of secrecy. The moment before you open the box, colours of the imagination come into play. You dream up ideas of what could be within, and when it is finally opened the contents leave room for another thoughtful adventure. I believe with photography and poetry you can not take an anonymous view, as a picture is worth a thousand words, and words are worth a thousand thoughts.
